My favorite wine characteristics:

I enjoy mostly medium to full bodied reds that are smooth and easy to drink. As a result, I typically avoid overly tannic wines, preferring a fruity taste and soft mouthfeel. As for whites, I prefer them light-bodied, anywhere from dry and crisp to semi-sweet and fruity. Full bodied whites are hit and miss with my palate.

My favorite types of wine:

You will usually find me drinking Shiraz, Grenache and red blends from all over the world. Rarely do I drink wine with food, preferring it instead alone in the evening, as the perfect night-cap. Occasionally I will have a semi-dry Riesling, which is also enjoyed by my Fiancée. Last winter I also started trying Ports, and have found myself pleasantly surprised at their nutty and dried fruit tastes, and their full, lingering sweetness.

My favorite wine experience:

I found my staff trip to California, a few years ago, to be quite an eye-opening experience. Just seeing the massive vineyards as we drove into Napa Valley was very impressive. Meeting with the winemakers and trying all their different varietals was extremely educational. I find that the more I learn about wine, the more subtleties and complexities I am able to pick up while sipping them. That is why I still like to participate in wine education courses from time to time, because there is always more to learn.
